Oviraptor Egg |
Click here to download a JPEG image of an Oviraptor Egg
In 1923, scientists gave the name Oviraptors philoceratops (egg eater) to a dinosaur they found lying on top of a nest of what they thought were Protoceratops eggs. A recent discovery, however, has proved that assumption to be wrong. An egg similar to what was thought to be from a Protoceratops was found containing an almost complete skeleton of an Oviraptor embryo. This discovery has shed new light on the eggs once thought to be from Protoceratops. It is now assumed that the Oviraptors were actually protecting and nurturing their own eggs rather than raiding the nest. Therefore the egg which the dinosaur world once knew to be from a Protoceratops has been proven to be an Oviraptor Egg!! Size: 6" x 2" x 2".
